It’s no secret that Hideo Kojima is one of the brightest minds in gaming. Let’s leave aside all the great games that have reached us under his direction so far; even the small details he sprinkled into his games can be the subject of a separate article.
Should we talk about Psycho Mantis, where you have to change the slot of the PSX gamepad so that it doesn’t read your mind, or a Game Boy Advance adapter that asks you to go out in the sun to fill your life bar in Boktai because Kojima thinks “I think gamers need to spend a little more time outside”?
Or should we talk about the fact that what was seen as a dystopia when Death Stranding came out soon became a part of our lives with the pandemic that erupted?
As we wait for news on a new game, Kojima Productions and XBOX Game Studios officially announced their strangely named game OD during The Game Awards. Hideo Kojima has partnered with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele, the acclaimed director of Get Out, Us and Nope, and Peele will be one of several talented storytellers involved in the project.
We are working with Xbox Game Studios and their cloud gaming technology to take on the challenge of creating a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game – or rather, a new form of media.
OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold and what it means to OD on fear – while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film. The new teaser for OD also reveals Sophia Lillis (“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”), Hunter Schaffer (“Euphoria”), and Udo Kier (“Flesh for Frankenstein”), who will play the lead roles in the upcoming project.
