Valve has confirmed that Android games and applications will soon be supported on Steam, allowing developers to publish Android builds directly on the platform. The information was shared through multiple official interviews and reports following the reveal of Steam Frame, Valve’s new standalone VR device.

Valve engineer Jeremy Selan stated that the goal is to make Android titles work on Steam without requiring developers to rebuild or heavily modify their projects. Selan said the company wants players to simply “download them and hit play,” describing the system as a streamlined publishing path for Android developers.

The Verge reports that Steam Frame, which runs on an Android-based operating environment, will be the first device to take advantage of this new capability. However, Valve also confirmed to the publication that support is part of a broader effort to prepare Steam for multiple device types, including those powered by ARM processors.

Android apps and VR titles designed for existing Android-based headsets (such as Meta Quest) will also be compatible, provided developers supply standard APK builds. This allows studios already creating VR or mobile content to bring their projects to Steam with significantly fewer technical steps.

Valve has not yet announced release dates, specific store guidelines, or how Android games will be categorized within the Steam ecosystem.
