The Saudi-based gaming ecosystem continues its rapid expansion as Exel by Merak announced the launch of its second cohort of the gaming accelerator programme.

The Exel by Merak programme runs for 16 weeks, including a two-week virtual bootcamp followed by around 14 weeks of in-person acceleration in Riyadh. Selected startups receive up to US$150,000 in cash plus US$150,000 in-kind services (mentorship, legal/HR support, access to tools) and gain access to global networks of publishers, investors, and industry experts. Relocation to Riyadh is required for the in-person phase.

“We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Exel Gaming Accelerator Cohort 2!

Today, we welcome a new group of exceptional gaming founders who are shaping the future of interactive entertainment across the region.

Over the coming weeks, they’ll participate in an intensive program designed to accelerate growth, refine strategy, and connect with global mentors and investors.

A huge thank you to our partners, mentors, and supporters who make this journey possible. The future of gaming innovation starts here.”

This second cohort marks the next step in Exel’s strategy to build out a pipeline of game studios and gaming technology companies in the Kingdom and regionally. For founders globally, the programme offers a route into the Saudi ecosystem at a time when the Kingdom is positioning itself as a global games hub.

The first cohort of Exel saw 17 studios graduate, each reportedly receiving around US$300,000 in investment, with the Accelerator having invested roughly US$5.1 million across those studios.
