The American semiconductor company AMD announced the specifications, prices and the release date of the new Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs. The new series of CPUs will arrive roughly two years after AMD’s 5000 series and will be based on the new Zen 4 architecture. The four CPUs introduced at the event are Ryzen 5 7600X, Ryzen 5 7700X, Ryzen 5 7900X, and Ryzen 5 7950X.

Per AMD’s official press release, the 7000 series AMD CPUs will be available on September 27. Just like the earlier generation, AMD keeps the same core counts with its latest series. The entry-level CPU, Ryzen 5 7600X will have 6 cores and 12 threads and will be priced at $299 (MSRP). The table below shows all the basic specs you need to know about AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

CPUPriceCore/ThreadBase clock speedBoosted clock speed Cache (L2+L3)TDP
Ryzen 5 7600X$2996c/12t4.7GHz5.3GHz38MB (6+32)105 W
Ryzen 7 7700X$3998c/16t4.5GHz5.4GHz40MB (8+32)105 W
Ryzen 9 7900X$54912c/24t4.7GHz5.6GHz76MB (12+64)170 W
Ryzen 9 7950X$69916c/32t4.5GHz5.7GHz80MB (16+64)170 W

The new CPUs come with a new motherboard chipset and socket, meaning your existing motherboards won’t support the new CPUs. AMD and its partners will launch the new X670 and X670 Extreme motherboards alongside the new CPUs.

The more budget-friendly versions of the motherboards, the B650 and B650 Extreme versions, will launch later in October 2022. Both series of motherboards will offer DD5 and PCIe 5.0 support.

The US-based chipmaker claims “the Ryzen 7000 Series processors deliver dominant performance and leading energy efficiency,”, however, there are no independent performance tests available at this point in time, but considering how Lisa Su and her team are quite transparent about the performance of their chips, the results published by the hardware giant should be quite reliable.
