Avenged Sevenfold announced a collaboration with The Sandbox to create a brand new virtual gaming world called the City of Evil. The metaverse will be used as a social hub for fans to get information and socialize.
Fans will be able to enjoy various activities while experiencing iconic and nostalgic moments of the band. The platform’s name comes from Avenged Sevenfold’s third studio album, City of Evil.
The announcement also had some updates about an upcoming album. The fans have been waiting patiently for the past six years for a new one, and the band’s frontman M. Shadows shared these words on the band’s official Twitter account:
“As many of you know, we are currently finishing up our eighth studio album. We expect to be firing on all cylinders once that is ready to be released, and this social hub will play a major role in gathering info and socializing with other fans. For the ones who have been patient, thank you.”
This is not the band’s first experience with the game community, either. The giants of metal had launched another game back in 2014 called Hail to the King: Deathbat.
The Sandbox is a community-driven platform where creators can monetize assets and gaming experiences on the blockchain. It’s becoming quite a popular hangout spot, especially for huge names in music such as Deadmau5, Jamiroquai, and Snoop Dogg.
Slipknot, another metal heavyweight, also announced a collaboration with The Sandbox a couple of months ago. Knotverse will be a hub for NFTs, concerts, gaming, and more.
City of Evil is in its alpha test for now. The band encourages all fans to join in and explore, as the platform is currently free for all users, no NFT or crypto payment is required to sign up. M. Shadows also stated the band has “much more to build,” which means that Avenged Sevenfold will continue to delve into the metaverse.
