Netflix’s gaming division is working on new features. Soon the players will be able to play games directly against each other and see their achievements on a leaderboard. The feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Netflix Games was introduced in November 2021. Currently, there are 24 games on the separate app. All the games are free for Netflix subscribers. The platform hoped this would be a big hit, but a recent data leak shows that Netflix Games has an average of 1.7 million daily users, only 1% of the Netflix subscribers. Even though the mobile gaming division isn’t doing great, the streaming giant is adding new features to attract more users.
Tech journalist Steve Moser found a code addition on Netflix’s mobile app, which shows the app will soon get game handles. This feature will be used only in the multiplayer part of the game. The users could choose a username that only contains letters and numbers, and it’s expected to roll out in the upcoming weeks.
TechCrunch reached out to Netflix spokesperson Kumiko Hidaka about these developments:
“We are always looking to improve our member’s experience on the service and are exploring different features to enrich the Netflix mobile games experience. We don’t have anything else to share at this time.”
It’s unclear yet if all the games in the app will get multiplayer options and leaderboards. Into The Breach, Bowling Ballers, Mahjong Solitaire ve Heads Up! will be the first games using the game handles feature.
Netflix recently announced a new mobile game called Netflix Heads Up! The popular party game already has several different mobile versions. Netflix’s version contains eight decks inspired by various titles such as Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and Squid Game. The game is available to download for Android and iOS users.
