A new report by the Wall Street Journal details the reasons why Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard made it easier because of ongoing problems within the company.
Towards the end of the report, he claims Kotick considers buying certain media outlets before buying. According to the report, Kotick wanted to have these broadcasts to show Activision Blizzard again in a positive way.
The report includes the following words:
“Mr Kotick has been eager to change the public narrative about the company, and in recent weeks has suggested Activision Blizzard make some kind of acquisition, including of gaming-trade publications like Kotaku and It is also stated that an Activision spokesperson objected to this, G/O Media (Kotaku’s parent company) declined to comment, and PC Gamer did not respond to requests for comment. It was also confirmed on Tuesday that Kotick would continue to serve as CEO of Activision Blizzard throughout the acquisition process.
When the deal closes, Activision Blizzard will be led by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. However, the announcement did not reveal whether Kotick would leave Activision Blizzard after the deal was complete. However, sources of the Wall Street Journal state that Kotick is expected to leave after the deal closes.
