Hamburg-based online strategy games developer and publisher Bytro secured €2 million in funding from BMWK Gamesförderung. Bytro announced that the funding will be used for a new gaming project.
Bytro stated that the new project will cater to a broader audience, including both hardcore and mid-core gamers. The company shared a post on LinkedIn, saying, “We’re aiming for a multi-faceted gaming experience featuring an enthralling narrative and well-developed characters. It will convey the complex mechanics of PC strategy games to mobile platforms without compromising on depth.”
Bytro’s portfolio of games has been downloaded more than 40 million, including games like Iron Order 1919, Call of War Supremacy 1914, which the company developed, and Conflict of Nations: WW3, which Bytro published.
BMWK Gamesförderung (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection) has provided up to €50 million in annual funding for the industry. The national fund was first established in June 2019 and was fully launched in 2020. Germany has increased the national budget for games support from €50 million to €70 million($73 million).
According to the German Games Industry Association game’s forecast, the funding program will require €100 million annually in the coming years.
