According to a document released by Los Angeles Tourism Board, E3 2024 and 2025 have both been canceled. E3 2020 was canceled due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, E3 2021 was held online, and E3 2022 was again canceled due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, including the online event. This year’s E3 2023 was canceled due to a lack of interest and attendance of major publishers.

Los Angeles Tourism Board’s meeting report shows that they have been informed by ESA (The Entertainment Software Association). However, this does not mean that E3 is gone forever. After the pandemic, most events found themselves in need to change and tailor to the needs of the post-pandemic world.

ESA’s president, Stanley Pierre-Louis, previously stated that  ESA intended to hold E3 in 2024; they were looking to find a balance that works for the industry.

Stephen Totilo from Axios has reached ESA and got a comment from a representative, saying, “ESA is currently in conversation with ESA members and other stakeholders about E3 2024 (and beyond), and no final decisions about the events have been made at this time.”

E3 may move to another city or just become an online event. Since there is no official statement for the future of E3 as of yet, the topic is up for debate.
