The Israeli video games startup Edge Gaming raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by US-based Corner Ventures, and backed by another Israeli games company Playtika. The company’s main product is its “playables”, which are basically standalone video game moments that are exciting and replayable by other players, provided they use Edge’s tech.
“Playables” are produced by content creators. When a streamer clips a moment the system turns it into a playable mini-game on Edge’s platform. Per Edge’s words, a “Playable” can be created from any video game as long as it has integrated the Edge SDK. The company’s website shows multiple “Playable’s from Valve’s popular competitive shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
These mini-games serve a bigger purpose: increasing user engagement with content. There’s a massive potential for the product and the Israeli startup will use the funding to “increase the number of game partnerships on the content platform and to create new features and services”.
Having said all that, users need to earn and use “Edge coins” to replay the “wow moments” shared by their favourite content creators. For example, to replay s1mple’s (one of the best CS:GO esports player) clutch moment in the map “Nuke” you have to spend 300 Edge coins first. You also need to connect your Steam account with Edge first.
Edge Gaming was founded back in 2021 by Asaf Gazit and Omri Gazit. They raised $12 million prior to the latest funding for this project.
