Meta reportedly sold nearly 20 million VR headsets

Meta has sold nearly 20 million VR headsets, including Quest 1, Quest 2, and Quest Pro. According to The Verge, the info was shared by Mark Rabkin, Meta’s Vice President of VR, during a presentation to employees.

Even though the sales figures are impressive, Rabkin said keeping the players interested in VR remains a struggle, saying, “We have to prove to people that all this power, all these new features are worth it.”

Meta’s Q3 2022 financial report shows increased daily active users but increased operating costs and a steep 52% income decline. Meta’s AR/VR division, Reality Labs, contributed with a $9.44 billion operating loss. Meta recently released the new VR headset Meta Quest Pro with a price tag of $1,499.

According to Omdia’s consumer VR headset forecast, consumer virtual reality will be worth $2.9 billion in 2022 and will increase to $20 billion in 2027. Omdia foresees that 12.5 million headsets will be sold in 2022, and $1.6 billion will be spent on VR content.
