Gamescom 2024 recap and highlights from Mobidictum

The world’s largest gaming community came together in Gamescom 2024 last week to celebrate their passion for gaming in person and online, breaking records.

Gamescom 2024 broke new records, reaching more people than ever before. Over 335,000 visitors from around 120 countries flocked to Gamescom 2024, and Friday and Saturday were completely sold out.

Online viewership for the show program reached an all-time high, with over 310 million video views recorded by Saturday evening alone. Gamescom Opening Night Live figures are particularly impressive, racking up over 40 million video viewsdouble that of the previous year. Gamescom 2024 numbers significantly exceeded the previous record, setting a new global benchmark.

Mobidictum was also present at Gamescom 2024 event, and Batuhan Avucan shared his thoughts on the event.

gamescom was a blast! It’s a must-go event for our industry to meet with new people worldwide and see old friends. As Mobidictum, our goal was to grow our presence in different regions and expand our network, as well as invite companies to our conference in Istanbul. It was very productive. See you next year.

Mobidictum’s highlights from Gamescom 2024

  • Government support is needed to boost the local games industries. Countries with associations and support can have an impact by showing their talent. Ideally, this can attract larger publishers, investments, etc. Do some lobbying and convince your government to support. Kudos to Estonia for joining the Nordic All Stars booth with Finland and Norway, discussing the e-residency program, and showing their local studios.

  • Almost all countries have their gaming event, either B2C or B2B, or combined. It’s a good excuse to travel, to visit all the events and cities together.

  • The industry’s condition affects everyone badly, but it won’t stay like this. Surviving until 2025 is a reality.

  • Web-based games are becoming more popular

  • The indie game devs are amazing. The creativity blows my mind. It is harder times to get either investment & publishing deals. A lot of them are also looking for self-publishing on the side.

  • Big publisher’s investments in attracting visitors to their area are insane. So much creativity (a video is coming)

  • I was told there are fewer people in the business area compared to last year

The number of trade visitors was around 32,000, with North America and Japan showing the largest increases in Gamescom 2024.

Another highlight for the community was the Gamescom Epix community adventure with the new digital Gamescom trading cards. By Saturday evening, 2.5 million page views had been registered.

“Gamescom has once again proven its unmatched global reach and significance as the world’s leading event for the gaming industry. Surpassing last year’s figures with record-breaking digital engagement and a rise in on-site visitors, Gamescom, Koelnmesse and the game association unite gaming fans worldwide through their shared passion, driving innovation and partnerships in the gaming industry in a way no other event has ever done before.”

Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse
