Is the co-developer of Subway Surfers shutting down?

Co-developer of Subway Surfers, Kiloo Games, faces an uncertain future as rumors circulate about its closure and layoffs, despite the game’s monumental success with over four billion downloads.

Kiloo Games is the co-developer of one of the most popular hyper-casual games, Subway Surfers. The game is so popular that it is one of the first titles that pop up when it comes to hyper-casual games. So much so that the game has had four billion downloads since its launch, making it the most downloaded mobile game.

Apparently, not everything is as smooth for the co-developer of the popular game. According to the LinkedIn posts of multiple employees of the company, they were served with a warning about termination by the end of the month. Kiloo Games will lay off its 100 employees before shutting down in July.

There is no clear reason why the Kiloo Games is shutting down, and the company hasn’t made any official statements on the matter yet but according to multiple employees, including Thomas Frøhlich, the Director of Game Design at Kiloo Games.

Remarkably, Subway Surfers became the first game on the Google Play Store to surpass the one billion download mark. In 2019, SYBO announced that Subway Surfers had become the most downloaded mobile game of the decade from 2012 to 2019, solidifying its immense popularity.

Kiloo Games, alongside its renowned creation Subway Surfers, boasts a rich background as a mobile developer, having contributed to a diverse range of notable franchises. The company has developed games for esteemed brands such as Lego, Happy Tree Friends, and Hugo the Troll, and also crafted the mobile adaptation of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.
