Justin Jones joins Azra Games as the VP of Game Design

Justin has worked on successful projects for popular titles such as Dragon Age, Game of Thrones, and Star Wars. His most well-known work is as the original Lead Designer and later Creative Director on the top-grossing Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

California-based game studio Azra Games, led by veteran game designer Mark Otero, has welcomed Justin Jones as the VP of Game Design. As VP of Design, Justin will oversee the design for Project Legends, an action role-playing game set in a sci-fi fantasy universe, in which players command Legends in a new battle experience and craft massive war machines.

With over 15 years of experience designing RPG, collectible, and strategy games, Justin has worked on successful projects for popular titles such as Dragon Age, Game of Thrones, and Star Wars. His most well-known work is as the original Lead Designer and later Creative Director on the top-grossing Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, which remains EA’s most successful mobile game of all time with $1.5B lifetime revenue.

Justin has a wide range of IP and team experience, which ranges from partnering with global brands such as Disney, BioWare, and HBO to developing the legacy mobile strategy hit Battle Nations for Z2 (later acquired by King.) Most recently, he also served as VP of Creative at Scopely and co-founded Moon Tavern Games to bring the nostalgia, meaning, and craft of classic RPGs and adventure games to mobile.

Azra Games CEO and Co-Founder Mark Otero has this to say about the new hire: “We’re ecstatic to welcome Justin to the team and community, especially as we accelerate the design process of Project Legends for a worldwide launch in 2025. He combines a deep understanding of the intricacies of designing collectible and combat RPGs loved by millions and years of experience successfully advancing well-known IP.”

Azra Games raised $15 million in May 2022 in a seed funding round and $10 million in an additional seed funding round, both led by Andreessen Horowitz.
