Of course, Acquire‘s place in the hearts of gamers is not limited to Octopath Traveler, one of the best RPG games of recent years, which looks spectacular with its HD-2D graphic style.
Founded 30 years ago, the studio became well known with the Tenchu series for PlayStation in the late nineties and the Way of the Samurai series for PlayStation 2 / PSP, and after releasing many games that were not as successful as these two series, it hit the jackpot with Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2.
The company, which worked with FromSoftware and Spike Chunsoft of Kadokawa Corporation in the two series mentioned above, was eventually acquired by Kadokawa for an unspecified price.
In the report cited by GamesIndustry.biz, the following lines about the acquisition are included:
“To strengthen the ability to create IP in games as part of our game business strategy, we have made Acquire into a wholly owned subsidiary. By acquiring the company, which has produced million-seller hit titles, we expect to generate synergies with our existing game-related subsidiaries, strengthen our planning and development capabilities groupwide, and enhance our line-up of console games.”
The Octopath Traveler series has sold close to 5 million copies so far, and the series continues to be distributed by Square Enix.
