Metaverse Game Studios has announced that it is rebranding as Angelicore Game Studios, marking what the team describes as a clearer identity shift toward its in-development strategy RPG Angelic.
In its statement, the studio said it originally chose the “metaverse” name in 2016 to reflect “a universe of interconnected worlds,” but argued the term has since become closely tied to buzzwords, speculation, and transaction-focused platforms rather than games.
Founder and CEO Erkan Bayol also addressed the decision, saying the original name made sense at the time, but that the meaning around it has changed while the team’s goals have not. He added that “Angelicore” better represents who the studio is today and frames the change as the start of a “new era” for the team.
On October 17, 2025, Angelicore Game Studios announced they are cancelling the token—previously known as the Angelverse Token- and any associated blockchain features with it.
Development history of Angelic
Angelic: The Chaos Theatre is a free tactical multiplayer module tied to the wider Angelic universe, with the main experience positioned as a cinematic, narrative strategy-RPG set after humanity’s fall.
The studio began as “a small Turkish team,” but had to shut down shortly after founding due to the 2016 coup attempt in Turkiye, before full production could begin. The original goal in 2016 was to build a collaborative intellectual property — a universe shaped not only by developers, but also by the community.
In that framing, “Metaverse” was meant to symbolize the connection between Angelic’s universe and player contributions, long before the term became heavily associated with web3 narratives and scams.

The rebirth in 2020 and the road to funding
The studio restarted operations in 2020, initially planning for a Kickstarter campaign before pivoting to publisher discussions. During that period, the team built a polished vertical slice that drew praise from publishers, investors, and influencers.
While it received offers from publishers and investors, Angelicore Game Studios chose blockchain-oriented backers primarily to preserve independence; partners supported the idea of a collaborative IP rather than a token-driven product.
In 2022, Angelicore Game Studios raised $10 million for Angelic, with the round led by Pantera Capital, Animoca Brands, Solana Ventures, and Everyrealm, among others.
Rejected NFTs and later scrapped token plans
Angelicore deliberately avoided the “play-to-earn” wave and refused to participate in NFT sales, even during the peak of the 2022 NFT boom. The studio never sold NFTs and publicly criticized predatory web3 business models, positioning Angelic as a game-first project rather than a speculative economy.
The team also outlined why it ultimately abandoned internal token concepts entirely, describing legal risk (including the possibility of a token being treated as a security) and the broader toxicity it says it observed across web3 gaming.
Angelic has been present on major PC storefronts for years. The Steam page went live in 2021, while the Epic Games Store page launched in 2023, and both platforms were comfortable hosting the title because it is not being presented as an NFT or blockchain game.

What’s next for Angelicore Game Studios
Angelicore Game Studios shared that its next public update will be a more detailed v-log covering upcoming features and production highlights.
In 2024, Angelic held multiple open Alpha sessions for players to test out the game.
