Minecraft’s creator Mojang shared a blog post stating that the game won’t support either NFTs or blockchain to ensure Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience. Mojang says blockchain technologies aren’t permitted to be integrated into Minecraft’s client.
Mojang says the company set these rules to make sure Minecraft remains a community where everyone has access to the same content and NFTs in their core go against this notion. The company says “NFTs create models of scarcity and exclusion” and this obviously conflicts with Mojang’s guidelines for Minecraft.

The video games giant also adds that both blockchain technologies and NFTs are far from being inclusive, yet another key detail that goes against the game’s spirit. The blog post lays stress on the following bit:
“Blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods.”
The company leaves some room for these technologies in the future, depending on how NFTs and blockchain will evolve and if they’ll ever meet Minecraft’s guidelines, but for the time being they won’t be integrated into Minecraft for certain.
Mojang is a subsidiary of Xbox Games Studios, meaning the company actually belongs to Microsoft. Just some days ago, Microsoft’s founder and ex-boss Bill Gates said “NFTs are 100% based on greater fool theory.” and following his words, the game’s community has been actively reaching for a clear message from Mojang.
While Minecraft rejects NFTs or blockchain, both technologies continue to receive major investments. Some of the more recent examples would be Brave Ready raising $3 million for its NFT battle royale game, and Hologram (a virtual avatar platform) raising $6.5 in seed funding.
