Mojang and Wizards of the Coast are joining forces for a 10-hour-long official Dungeons & Dragons DLC. The new adventure will offer players to customize their characters’ stats and roll 20-sided dice to determine how to proceed in fully-voiced dialogue.

In this new Minecraft D&D DLC, players choose among classes like Barbarian or Wizard and explore five iconic Forgotten Realms locations, such as Candlekeep and Icewind Dale, while defeating classic baddies like beholders, mimics, mindflayers, and, of course, dragons!

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Wizards of the Coast, to introduce a brand new, story-driven Dungeons & Dragons DLC to Minecraft! We can’t wait for the community to dive in and experience a blocky take on the world of D&D,” said Riccardo Lenzi, Senior Producer at Mojang Studios.

Minecraft and Dungeons&Dragons might be collaborating for the first time, but fans have integrated both games. Minecraft has dungeons and a dragon, after all. Jokes aside, Minecraft is known to be used by DMs for creating a visual aid for D&D games. Some create dungeons; some create cities or terrains for encounters. Many Minecraft builds are based on locations like Icewind Dale, Candlekeep, or Menzoberranzan. Most of the Elven designs made in Minecraft are modeled after Elves of Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance universes. There are mods based on D&D where players can create their characters and go on an adventure.

Dungeons & Dragons will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. Hollywood star and the official D&D ambassador Joe Manganiello (Spider-Man, Magic Mike, Justice League) is directing a documentary about the game’s history. Joe Manganiello is well-known in the D&D space as Arkhan the Cruel and for stealing Hand of Vecna from Vox Machina in internet sensation Critical Role‘s first season.

Minecraft D&D DLC will be available on the Minecraft Marketplace in Spring 2023.
