Mobidictum is bringing UP DOWN UP: Why Some Game Companies Succeed, While Others Fail, the games industry book by veteran executive Kim Nordstrom, to Turkish readers.
Originally published on January 19, 2024, UP DOWN UP explores one fundamental question: why do some game companies succeed while others fail? Nordstrom spent two years speaking with more than 100 founders, CEOs and industry leaders to examine the lessons behind some of the games industry’s biggest successes and most challenging failures.
The book draws on perspectives from leaders working across PC, console and mobile games, as well as premium and free-to-play business models. Rather than focusing solely on individual games, UP DOWN UP examines the companies behind them, covering subjects including leadership, company culture, growth, focus, management and the decisions that can determine whether a successful game company continues to thrive or enters a period of decline.
Nordstrom brings almost three decades of experience in the games industry to the book. After beginning his career in the C64 demoscene and founding his own game studio, he went on to hold leadership positions at companies including PlayStation, King and Paradox Interactive. His experiences during periods of rapid growth and subsequent challenges at major game companies became part of the inspiration behind UP DOWN UP.
The Turkish edition has been translated and localized by 23 Studios, with a focus on adapting both the games industry terminology and the broader management concepts explored throughout the book for Turkish readers.
Through the Turkish release of UP DOWN UP, Mobidictum aims to make games industry knowledge around leadership, management and company building more accessible to game developers, studio founders, executives, students and other industry professionals in Türkiye.

The launch of the Turkish edition will be closely tied to Mobidictum Conference 2026, taking place on October 7–8, 2026, in Istanbul, where Kim Nordstrom will join attendees for a series of activities centered around the book.
During the conference, Nordstrom will take part in a session titled “UP DOWN UP: Why Some Game Companies Succeed, While Others Fail” alongside Abdurrahman Koçak and Mert Gür. The session will bring the ideas explored in the book to the stage, with a discussion around the factors that shape the success, growth and decline of game companies.
