Online gaming platform Roblox made an official statement on its blog titled “Introducing Experiences for People 17 and Older” and announced that the platform is now available to all ages.
According to the post, the fastest-growing age group on Roblox is 17-to-24-year-olds, and in 2022, 38% of our daily active users were 17 and over. Only those who have verified that they’re at least 17 will be able to create or consume mature themes and storylines like in TV shows or stand-up comedies.
The newly introduced age verification system requires users to upload a selfie and a photo of a government-issued ID. Community Standards and policies are also updated, and new Parental Controls is introduced to provide the ability to restrict children’s access to certain experiences.
In the blog post, Manuel Bronstein, Chief Product Officer, said, “We want those experiences to be safe and civil, high-quality, engaging, and to fully leverage the potential of aged-up content. In the coming weeks, eligible users will begin to see these new experiences. As always, as we innovate, we’re keeping safety top of mind. We can’t wait to see what our community builds.”
New 17+ content can be created as of today, and any user with verified age can experience more violence, blood, or crude humor.
