Creator Sean Murray feels content with No Man’s Sky having no in-game purchases

The talented CEO states that the team is happy with their straightforward business model and the game’s positive community.

Sean Murray, Creator of No Man’s Sky and CEO of Hello Games, recently stated that the company’s straightforward business model and the game’s positive community make the team happy for now.

On a question about whether the team will ever include in-game purchases into No Man’s Sky, Murray responded:

“We have our business model, which is very straightforward with the players: they pay us some money to play the game, and we update the game. We have really enjoyed that process and that relationship. I don’t want to know the alternative future and how much money we could have made.”

Although the talented CEO congratulates and welcomes other companies who use microtransactions as a business model for games, he says they believe in “delivering value to players.” Murray also mentions that he loves playing Fortnite and Rocket League. Even though people constantly tell the team that there are alternative business models, Hello Games’ boss says there are many reasons for their choice of a business model for now:

“I have played so much Fortnite, and I have never given a penny to Epic! I have got so much fun out of that game and Rocket League, I have played an absolute ton of, and I feel guilty about how I have never spent anything! It is cool that they can do that; it’s great, but that’s not what we’re doing; it’s just different. It’s probably really naive, but it’s what we’re doing, and there are historical reasons why we got into it, more purposeful reasons why we really think that it’s the right model for us at the moment.”

Hello Games launched No Man’s Sky back in 2016, as Murray survived a lot of scrutiny at the time. Players and critics alike criticized the game that lacked most of the CEO’s promises about the in-game features before the launch. Later on, the game became a massive hit as the team worked day and night to bring updates over updates to make sure that the players were content with No Man’s Sky.

The interview was done by NintendoLife, as the game will receive a Nintendo Switch edition on October 7. After the game was launched for PC and PlayStation 4, the Xbox One version came out in July 2018. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S versions were launched in 2020.
