Nightdive Studios, known for remasters of System Shock and Quake 2, revealed its Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster with a trailer. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The release date will be announced later this year.
Created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will be fully remastered through Nightdive’s KEX engine and will support up to 4K at 120FPS.
Star Wars: Dark Forces was released in 1995 by LucasArts. Set within the Star Wars universe, the first-person shooter game follows the adventures of Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance. The game is notable for being one of the earliest entries in the Star Wars video game franchise to focus on a non-Jedi character.
The game’s plot revolves around Kyle Katarn’s mission to thwart the plans of the Galactic Empire. The Empire has developed a superweapon called the Dark Trooper Project, which involves the creation of powerful battle droids known as Dark Troopers. These troopers pose a significant threat to the Rebel Alliance, and it’s up to Kyle Katarn to infiltrate Imperial bases, gather intelligence, and ultimately put a stop to the Dark Trooper Project.
