Tencent is one of the most popular and successful publishers in the game industry. It was also the most grossing mobile publisher for the first quarter of 2020. Yesterday at Tencent Games Annual Conference, which was online this year, the company talked about its future roadmap. There are new games from the company beside partnerships with other publishers and developers. We also got an insight about the Chinese giant strategy.
Three elements will drive the future evolution of the industry
At the digital conference, Tencent’s Senior Vice president Steven Ma talked about three core elements that will drive the future evolution of the game industry. These three core elements are Technology, Gameplay, and Storylines. Ma said the following in the conference:
Globally, the popularity of new technologies is accelerating, the innovation cycle of gameplay is shortening, and the creation of story IP is also becoming richer. The game industry is at the stage for a new generation of exciting possibilities. There is no better time than now to seize the opportunity, nurture our imaginations, explore new boundaries of creativity, and bring new values to the game community.
Furthermore, the company announced new partnerships and game titles based on popular IP franchises. The first one is a new Metal Slug mobile game. It will be developed by Tencent’s TiMi Studios (Call of Duty: Mobile) with SNK Corporation. The game doesn’t have a name yet but it will be a faithful rendition of Metal Slug’s classic arcade shoot ’em up play on the go and in players’ hands.
Tencent is also bringing Dungeon&Fighter to China
Tencent is publishing Neople Inc’s Mobile Dungeon&Fighter in China. The new Dungeon&Fighter mobile title will be built on the franchise’s iconic 2D arcade-style side-scrolling action gameplay. It will offer a deep immersive multiplayer role-playing game (RPG) elements and continuously evolving storyline. A lot of things are happening in the background and we are excited to see what Tencent is working on.
