Annapurna acquires South African game developer 24 Bit Games

Annapurna has acquired 24 Bit Games, a prominent South African game development studio. The acquisition is the result of a longstanding partnership between the two companies.

Annapurna specializes in film production, video game development, publishing, television, and live theatre. Through the acquisition, Annapurna will expand its interactive division and facilitate the growth of 24 Bit Games‘ development team and proprietary technology toolkits, catering to existing client projects and upcoming ventures. Under the new ownership, the current employees and leadership of 24 Bit Games will maintain their roles, ensuring continuity in the studio’s day-to-day operations.

Both companies have expressed their commitment to furthering the advancement of 24 Bit Games and collectively supporting the South African game development industry. Deborah Mars, Co-Head of Annapurna Interactive, emphasized the longstanding collaboration and stated:

With a diverse portfolio encompassing projects ranging from porting to co-development and tool production for independent and AAA studios across various platforms, 24 Bit Games has established itself as a trusted entity in the industry. The studio’s client list includes various publishers, developers, media companies, and tech platforms.

Annapurna, renowned for collaborating with game creators globally, recently released the story-driven adventure game “Thirsty Suitors” on November 2. Their award-winning portfolio includes titles such as “Stray,” “Cocoon,” “Outer Wilds,” and “Neon White,” showcasing their diverse range of offerings in the gaming world.
