The 65th annual Grammy Awards announced the new award category in November and nominated Fireteam Elite, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Guardians Of The Galaxy, and Old World for the award.

During her acception speech Stephanie Economou said “I just want to recognize all of the people who fought tirelessly to bring this category of video game music into existence. Thank you for acknowledging and validating the power of game music.”

Video games have been eligible for Grammys since 2011, but no specific award category was dedicated to video game music until this year’s awards.
