French video game developer and publisher Focus Entertainment acquired the majority stake of BlackMill Games from M2H, the Dutch studio behind critically acclaimed WW1 games Verdun and Tannenberg.
Following the acquisition, BlackMill Games Founder and Creative Director will hold the remaining 33,33% stake and continue to lead the studio and will keep its name. The Netherlands game maker became the sixth video game developer Focus Entertainment acquired.
BlackMill Games launched Isonzo today, a new entry to its WW1-focused series. The game takes place in Northern Italy and like the earlier titles in the series, the game is a historical, tactical, simulation shooter.
Christophe Nobileau, CEO of Focus Entertainment said:

The studio has already shown strong DNA and identity and has proven to be an expert in delivering immersive, authentic, and realistic multiplayer FPS experiences with its WW1 Game Series – one of the references of First World War shooters. We’re looking forward to working with Jos and his team, and to continue delivering new unique experiences.”
Jos Hoebe, CEO of BlackMill Games also commented:

The share-selling party M2H also commented on the acquisition via Matt Hergaarden, the COO of the company. Hergaarden said:
“It’s an exciting time with this acquisition, the Isonzo launch and on top of that the opportunity to begin full focus on our new adventure with M2H. We know the WW1 Game Series is in the capable hands of Jos and Focus Entertainment and believe that together they can make the series bigger than ever.
“While we’re eager to start work on an exciting new project, we will make sure to hand over our knowledge and expertise in the coming year so that there is a smooth transition. We’re looking forward to seeing where the new owners will bring the WW1 Game Series.”
There was no disclosure of the acquisition fee. The official press release mentions that “The acquisition is expected to be slightly accretive in the 2022/23 fiscal year.”
