The monthly mobile apps report aims to help mobile game publishers, marketers, and developers better understand the latest shifts in user demand and competitive dynamics within the global mobile gaming market.

Overview: Global Mobile Apps Performance in July 2026

  • NetShort placed roughly 1.25 million creatives to overtake DramaWave and top the Android advertising chart.

  • VibeShort increased its ad spend by 60% to break into the iOS Top 5, while AI course platform Coursiv entered the advertising chart.

  • Claude saw revenue rise about 20% across both platforms, and Grok made its first appearance in the App Store revenue Top 20.

  • WhatsApp downloads surged 88% to reclaim the No. 1 spot on Google Play, while AI apps cooled across downloads.

Top 20 Global Mobile Apps by Advertising Activity

Let’s start with the July global mobile app advertising chart:

In terms of the competitive landscape, short dramas and web novels remain dominant—17 of the Top 20 on the App Store are short-drama or web-novel apps. The biggest shift at the top was a changing of the guard between the two leaders:

NetShort overtook DramaWave with 1.25 million creatives to top the Android chart, while on the App Store DramaWave increased spend by 36% to 1.35 million creatives, holding firm at No. 1. Elsewhere, Temu held No. 3 on the App Store with 680,000 creatives. Next, we take a closer look at two products.

VibeShort: The AI Animation Dark Horse Doubles Down, with Ad Spend in the UK and Canada Surging

The product comes from AGILE QUADRANT MEDIA, and we reported on its sudden entry onto the charts when it began advertising in April. Its ad volume kept climbing in July: roughly 420,000 deduplicated creatives on the App Store, up a sharp 61.5% month over month to break into No. 5, while its 260,000 creatives on Android held steady at No. 5. Its July campaign data is as follows:

  • It is advertised in over 80 countries and regions, with the United States, France, and the United Kingdom leading in creative volume. The UK rose 80.6% month over month, Canada 112.4%, and Mexico 90.7%, while Germany and Italy contracted—shifting its focus from German-speaking markets toward English-speaking regions and Latin America.

  • Video made up 99.98% of creatives, dominated by vertical 720×1280 videos longer than 60 seconds, using complete narrative hooks to retain viewers.

  • In copy, English accounted for 62.5% and Spanish 14.2%. High-frequency keywords included “Continue Watch,” “Reborn,” “Billionaire CEO,” and “Mafia Don.” North America favored werewolf/CEO themes, Latin America highlighted family betrayal, and Europe leaned into mafia romance.

Among its top creatives, the AI hyper-realistic short drama “One Watch, One Promise,” aired in July, stood out: a 15-minute vertical mafia-themed story about a family heir who endures ten years to reclaim a casino, with AI-generated human likeness nearly indistinguishable from real footage—its three-day impression value exceeded 120,000.

VibeShort‘s Top New Short-Drama Creatives in July

From AI comic-dramas in April to AI hyper-realistic dramas in July, VibeShort is leveraging AIGC to drive down content production costs—potentially giving it the confidence to keep doubling down in an increasingly crowded market.

Coursiv: The AI Course Platform Breaks Into the Ad Chart, Targeting the 40+ Audience

Another newcomer is the AI learning platform Coursiv, whose roughly 89,000 deduplicated creatives on Android in July placed it at No. 16—a rare non-entertainment product on the chart. Its July campaign data is as follows:

  • Meta-family channels were the absolute mainstay, while new channels scaled quickly: AppLovin rose 171.7% month over month over 30 days, TikTok 108.9%, and Snapchat surged 58-fold.

  • It covered more than 85 countries and regions, with Brazil, India, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom in the top five—a stark contrast to short dramas’ focus on the high-paying U.S. market.

  • Video accounted for 95.14% of creatives, mostly 15–60 seconds, and largely used a W2A (Web-to-App) approach.

Its signature creative approach is telling: an AI digital-human podcast interview opens with “Everyone should stop treating ChatGPT and Canva like children’s toys”; then a billboard animation reveals a “28-Day AI Mastery Plan,” lining up more than 20 tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney, each tagged “15 minutes a day,” aimed squarely at users “aged 40 and above,” and closing with FOMO copy: “A month from now you’ll regret not starting sooner.”

Coursiv‘s Top New Creatives in July

Even as AI app downloads cooled in July, the “sellers of shovels” teaching others to use AI actually increased their ad spend—anxiety over AI adoption is spawning new paid verticals.

Top 20 Global Mobile Apps In Revenue

App Store Revenue Highlights

  • ChatGPT led by a wide margin at USD 269.7 million; the biggest highlight remained AI—Claude rose to No. 5 at USD 66.8 million, a record high, while Grok broke into the Top 20 at USD 22.8 million, with AI apps now occupying three of the top revenue spots.

  • Additionally, Peacock TV extended its rally on the World Cup final window (+9.1%), and DramaBox climbed 16.2% to land at No. 20, as short-drama monetization begins to pay off.

Google Play Revenue Highlights

  • Google One remained on top at USD 297.1 million, Claude rose 20.3% to No. 9, DramaBox posted the chart’s largest gain at +21.9%, and Microsoft OneDrive debuted at No. 20.

  • Notably, a “falling volume, rising value” gap emerged: ChatGPT‘s downloads fell 11%–35% across both platforms even as revenue kept climbing—top AI products have moved from a user-acquisition phase into a paid-monetization swing phase.

Top 20 Global Mobile Apps in Downloads

App Store Download Leaders

Netflix Game Controller skyrocketed 177.4% to debut at No. 7, advancing Netflix’s gamification ambitions; DramaWave‘s 187.9% was the chart’s largest gain, directly validating its 1.35 million creatives in a clear “advertising → download” loop; NetShort rose 72.2% to No. 12.

Google Play Download Leaders

  • WhatsApp reclaimed the top spot with 66.8 million downloads, overtaking ChatGPT; Gemini fell 29.7% as AI app downloads retreated across the board, while the short-drama cohort stayed steady, with ReelShort climbing 26.4% to No. 14.

Conclusion

The above covers advertising insights for global mobile apps in July 2026, along with the revenue and download performance of non-game apps on the App Store and Google Play.

July’s global mobile app rankings highlight three key trends: short-drama platforms continued to dominate advertising activity, AI applications strengthened their monetization, and content-driven strategies remained a major growth driver. NetShort and DramaWave strengthened their leadership through large-scale campaigns, while VibeShort demonstrated the potential of AIGC-powered content and localized UA strategies. Meanwhile, Claude and Grok accelerated AI’s growth on the revenue side, while Peacock TV and DramaBox benefited from major content and sports-driven events.
