Indie.io launches “Indie Pass”: A $6.99 subscription aiming to solve the discoverability crisis

Launching on April 13, 2026, Indie Pass aims to provide a sustainable ecosystem for smaller creators while offering players a curated library at a fraction of the cost of mainstream competitors.

Priced at $6.99 (€5.99 / £4.99) per month, Indie Pass will debut with a catalog of 70+ titles. While it lacks the “Day One” triple-A draws of its rivals, the service leans into indie.io’s deep library and partner network.

Confirmed launch titles include:

  • Echoes of the Plum Grove (Cozy Sim)

  • Dark Deity I & II (Strategy RPG)

  • Tyrant’s Blessing (Tactical Turn-based)

  • Everwarder (Horror Tower Defense)

A New Revenue Model for Developers

For the B2B side of the industry, the most significant aspect of Indie Pass is its compensation structure. Unlike flat-fee licensing deals that have become common (and increasingly difficult to secure) on larger platforms, Indie Pass utilizes a player engagement model.

Subscription revenue is pooled and distributed to developers based on the actual time users spend playing their games. Speaking on the launch, Jess Mitchell, Director of Growth at indie.io, highlighted the service as a “discoverability lifeline.”

“If you don’t have a huge splash at launch, you might not have another discoverability moment for months.

Indie Pass is a dedicated destination where fans can uncover great titles without the noise of AAA marketing budgets.”

The service will require its own standalone launcher, meaning it won’t integrate directly with Steam or Epic Games Store libraries.

For indie.io, the gamble is whether the low price point and curated experience are enough to convince players to install yet another client.
