Mobile game publisher Kwalee has made a €1.5 million investment in the French mobile studio 8SEC, acquiring a stake in the company. Despite the investment and board additions, 8SEC will maintain its independence and continue its operations from its existing studios in Paris and Lyon. Specializing in hybrid-casual mobile titles, 8SEC focuses on games that are easy to pick up but designed for long-term engagement, generating revenue through ads and in-app purchases.
Since its establishment in 2015, 8SEC has released over 90 titles, including popular games like Trivia.io, Hero Squad, and Idle Army. Kwalee’s investment reflects its interest in supporting studios focusing on quality production and development, particularly those with proven success in global charts.
David Darling, CEO of Kwalee, expressed satisfaction with the investment, emphasizing the company’s commitment to collaborating with talented game studios like 8SEC. He highlighted 8SEC’s reputation for high-quality production and development, stating that their alignment with Kwalee’s mission of creating enjoyable games for players worldwide makes them an exciting partner. Darling also noted that Kwalee is eager to leverage its data-driven methods to assist 8SEC in scaling its games globally.
