Lag issues make the game unpleasant.

Edgegap has released a new report. According to the report, 97% of online gamers experience lag issues in some way.

The survey results, in which about 2000 players from the US and UK participated, show that despite the widespread use of 5G, most mobile players continue to experience lag problems. Nearly 42% of gamers say the lag issue is “level to encumber gameplay.”

50% of gamers say their biggest complaint about online games is lag issues. 51% think this lag issue is caused by the game company’s servers or is company related.

Of the 2,000-person survey cluster, 34% say they stopped or took a break from playing an online game when faced with lag. For competitive games, this rate is slightly higher.

Lag in online games is quite an annoying problem. According to Edgegap, 72% of gamers experience lag due to network, 53% game software, and 37% to device hardware.

Network latency is lower in mobile games

Edgegap’s report shows that network latency in mobile games today is slightly lower than in PC and consoles.

Latency issues by platform

When it comes to gameplay, lag issues in mobile games are lower. “Lag” and “jitter” issues are lower in mobile games. These two issues are generally related to network connectivity. Network-related latency issues are less in mobile games, while hardware-related delays (loadings, buffering, etc.) are more.

Also, mobile gamers are more inclined to close the game and start playing another game when they experience lag issues. According to Edgegap, around 39% of mobile gamers quit and play another game when they experience lag. This rate is determined as 32% on PC and consoles.

Half of the gamers blame game companies

Most gamers think that when they experience lag issues, it is related to the game company. Regarding lag, 63% of players surveyed by Edgegap blame the internet provider, 51% the gaming company, and 24% gaming hardware.

A significant part of the players blames the game companies.

Also, the majority of players say that the main source of lag is related to “internet connection speed.” “Connection type” and “game-related issues” come in second and third.

According to the players, the biggest reason for the delay is “internet connection speed”

Big mobile game companies are worried

When it comes to online mobile games, gamers tend to think gaming companies cause that lag issues. A significant portion of PUBG Mobile (46%), Clash Royale (42%), Clash of Clans (40%), and Within Us (39%) players think that the game company or their servers cause the delay they experience.

There could be many reasons for the delay. Problems from game companies are less than gamers think. On the other hand, the most important issue for the gamers is the gaming experience and the lag issues greatly damage it. Players who believe they’ve lag problems due to the game company are more cautious about the games of the same company and can avoid spending money. This situation worries major game developers and publishers.
