Thunderstruck, a new player analytics platform from Metanomic has been globally launched. The platform promises to help game developers use behavioral data to improve retention and monetization.
Metanomic CEO Theo Priestley has previously spoken about the need for more behavioral analytics to boost the game industry. Now the company is introducing the first ever video game analytics platform. It uses artificial intelligence powered by Bayesian inference to understand data from actual in-game events. The data is taken directly from game servers. This way, player habits like motivation, play style, and reward preferences can be analyzed and it provides developers insight they need.
Announcing the launch of Thunderstruck, Theo Priestley, CEO, and Founder of Metanomic, said:
“For too long, game developers have relied on blunt instruments to understand their players. It’s no exaggeration to say that the bulk of the games industry’s framework for player classification dates back to a 1996 essay by Richard Bartle. A generation later, Thunderstruck is the next big leap forward, taking just a few days to generate more insight than a team of analysts could in a month.
We understand that players can straddle multiple personas or even change persona based on their motivations and use custom AI and live data to accurately anticipate how they’ll respond to metagame changes. Thunderstruck is all about empowering game developers with a better way to identify, acquire, and impact the right players for their game.”
Thunderstruck is launching with seven types of players: Killer, Achiever, Explorer, Socialite, Speedster, Conqueror, and Scientist. It can be adjusted to suit individual game priorities. Player types will be refined and added as the platform analyzes data from more games.
Thunderstruck is compatible with mobile, console, and PC games, including web3 and traditional web2 games. The platform also works with Metanomic’s free Economy Engine platform.
