As part of the deal, Annapurna will acquire an option to television, film, and selected audiovisual licensing rights for Control and Alan Wake as well as related ancillary products. Remedy will retain the full IP rights for Control and Alan Wake.

“This strategic partnership between Annapurna and Remedy is an important milestone and an exciting opportunity for us. We know Annapurna shares our passion for our IPs and the universes we have created.

At Remedy, our primary focus continues to be what we do best—crafting industry-defining video games that have earned us global recognition. Now, the time is right to expand the reach of Remedy’s beloved franchises to an even broader global audience through film, television, and more.

With award-winning movies such as Zero Dark Thirty and games like Stray, Annapurna’s expertise across film, TV, and video games makes them an ideal partner for us.

This agreement will ensure we can develop Control 2 into the best game possible, allow us to move into self-publishing for selected titles and expand our franchises to other mediums.”

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment

Annapurna, an entertainment company founded by Megan Ellison in 2011, creates and produces original stories across film, interactive entertainment, television and theatre. Annapurna will take the lead in expanding Control and Alan Wake into new entertainment mediums, enabling Remedy to focus on the development of Control 2 and other upcoming games.

“The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life. By leveraging Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across mediums.

Today people fall in love with characters and universes, not formats, and we’re excited to leverage Remedy’s beloved, immersive narratives in these new mediums.”

Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna

The deal was announced just a week after the news that ex-Epic Games executive Hector Sanchez had rejoined Annapurna as President of Interactive and New Media, where his role includes partnering with founder and CEO Megan Ellison to develop IP across mediums.

“This deal with Remedy isn’t just about adapting great games—-it’s about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate. By backing Remedy’s move toward self-publishing, we’re putting our faith in their vision.

We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television and beyond.”

Hector Sanchez, President of Interactive and New Media at Annapurna

“We’re super excited to get Annapurna on board! Annapurna’s creative values align perfectly with ours, making them an inspiring partner for the journey ahead.

We at Remedy have been working on Control 2 for a while already, it’s looking amazing, and we feel Annapurna is the perfect partner to work with as the game development is moving forward towards production and eventually across the finish line.”

Mikael Kasurinen, Remedy’s Creative Director & Juha Vainio, Executive Producer on the Control Franchise

Remedy will receive a greater revenue share from game sales after the initial investments have been recouped, proportional to the amounts invested. Conversely, Annapurna will receive a greater revenue share from the audiovisual productions.

“I’m absolutely thrilled (yes!) by this opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our whole Remedy Connected Universe to mediums beyond games, and to build all of this in close collaboration, games, film, TV, and other mediums as well, as one unified vision. I trust Annapurna are the perfect partner for us to make this dream come true.”
