Roblox reports fourth quarter and full year financial results

The financial report shows almost $1 billion net loss while the revenue increases by 2% year-over-year.

The online game platform and game creation system Roblox released its fourth quarter and full year 2022 financial and operational results. The report shows revenue increase in both the fourth quarter and full year, and net loss for 2022 is at almost $1 billion.

Numbers in both reports show similar growth to 2021. David Baszucki, Founder and CEO of Roblox, said, “2022 was a year of innovation and invention for Roblox,” and added, “we expect to continue to report net losses for the foreseeable future even as we anticipate generating net cash from operating activities.”

Fourth Quarter 2022 Financial and Operational Highlights

  • Revenue: $579 million, up 2% year-over-year
  • Bookings: $899.4 million, up 17% year-over-year
  • Net loss: $291 million
  • Net loss per share: $0.48
  • Average Daily Active Users (DAUs) were 58.8 million, up 19% year-over-year

Full Year 2022 Financial and Operational Highlights

  • Revenue: $2.2 billion, up 16% year-over-year
  • Bookings: $2.9 billion, up 5% year-over-year
  • Net loss: $934 million
  • Net loss per share: $1.55
  • Average DAUs were 56 million, up 23% year-over-year

“Bookings accelerated meaningfully in December and January, with year over year growth exceeding 20% in both months. Growth was strong across all geographies and age groups with particular strength among users above 17 years old,” said Michael Guthrie, Chief Financial Officer of Roblox. “As bookings re-accelerated late in 2022, we saw immediate improvements in adjusted EBITDA margins. For the full year, we were able to make important investments in infrastructure and trust and safety largely out of cash flow from operations.”
