Collins will replace former chief product and technology officer March Whitten, who resigned in the summer.
Collins brings decades of experience from his tenure as CTO at King, the studio behind hits like Candy Crush, and as co-founder and CTO of Havok, the pioneering physics engine that helped define modern gaming.
He also served as CTO at Swrve, a real-time marketing automation cloud for mobile applications. An academic pioneer, he founded the computer graphics research group at Trinity College Dublin and launched its MSc program in computer game technology.
“We’re elated to have Steve join us at this pivotal time. He has deep technical expertise in both gaming and marketing technology, and he understands what developers need. Steve will play a key role as we continue to deliver more innovation, quality, and stability to our customers.”
Matt Bromberg, President and CEO of Unity
“I’ve followed Unity for nearly two decades as it changed the world of games and real-time 3D content development, enabling creators to realize their artistic visions and reach global audiences across a wide range of devices.
I’m super excited to be joining the very talented team behind the Unity Engine, and I look forward to helping make Unity an even better partner for its community.”

Steve Collins’s future impact is important for Unity
A big shift in strategy started in Unity when Matthew Bromberg was appointed Unity’s new CEO. Bromberg’s biggest action came in September when Unity announced the cancellation of the nightmarish Runtime fee under Bromberg’s administration.
Matthew Bromberg shared his excitement about Steve Collins joining Unity on his LinkedIn profile:
“I don’t think honored is too strong a word to describe how I feel about Steve Collins joining Unity as our new Chief Technology Officer.
Steve’s background as the CTO of King, Co-Founder and CTO of Havok, as well as CTO at Swrve, gives him the trifecta of deep engagement with engines, game development, and mobile marketing. We are all looking forward to welcoming him to the company.”

Collins responded:
“I’m really looking forward to working with Matthew Bromberg and his team at Unity. Matt has a deeply customer focused vision and has already achieved some great results, and with the team’s recent fab Unity6 release, the Unity community is very exciting to be contributing to.”
