The Battle of Polytopia was first launched on 26 February 2016 as a passion project by lead developer and Midjiwan founder Felix Ekenstam. 10 years later, the game has expanded to be a popular title in the mobile space, winning several awards, including Best Indie Developer at the Pocket Gamer Mobile Game Awards in 2024, and Best Community at the Gaming On Phone awards in 2025.
It has an active community of 270,000+ fans, with 50,000+ members on Discord and 60,000+ on the official Reddit, where fans frequently seek out multiplayer matches, discuss the game’s lore, and share fan art of the various Tribes. Its most popular tribes are: Elyrion, Vengir, Cymanti, Kickoo, Hoodrick.
Midjiwan will be celebrating The Battle of Polytopia’s 10th Anniversary in 2026, kicking off its campaign with the sale of a signed limited edition 10 Year Anniversary poster, available now on the official Midjiwan store. Midjiwan also launched The New Dawn Cymanti Skin on Nintendo Switch (already available on Mobile), for £2.69/$2.99.

At launch, The Battle of Polytopia was only available on iOS, was a single-player experience with one game mode, and offered just five tribes.
Over the course of ten years, Midjiwan experimented with new ideas and listened to community feedback to expand the game content, adding in multiple Tribes (including unique gameplay tribes like the Cymanti), local and online multiplayer, leaderboards, different game modes like Domination, weekly challenges and skins for each tribe and saw a release on Android, Steam, Epic Game Store and Nintendo Switch.
The Battle of Polytopia now sees millions of game sessions played every month, with an average playtime of 5 hours+ per user.
Later this year, Midjiwan plans to announce and launch a new gameplay mode and features for The Battle of Polytopia as well as a physical card game. Details around this will be revealed at a later date.
“In 2010 I began drawing up plans for a strategy game, similar to the big popular titles on PC and consoles, but specifically designed for mobile.
I began by myself and after 6 years of development The Battle of Polytopia went live.
Now, 10 years after the launch, the game has grown into something bigger than I could have ever imagined. I wanted to make a game that I wanted to play, and I’m constantly thrilled to learn that so many others want to play it as well. It’s thanks to their support that the game is still going strong even 10 years on.”
Felix Ekenstam, Creator of The Battle of Polytopia
“The Battle of Polytopia began as a single-player strategy game and 10 years later it has evolved into a forever game with endless replayability mechanics as well as multiplayer and skill based tournament features.
The passionate playerbase that Polytopia has built up is proof players want quality mobile games driven by creativity and community, not aggressive monetisation. We see this as the first decade of many to come for this game. ”
Christian Lövstedt, General Manager at Midjiwan
The Battle of Polytopia had a strong 2025 seeing the game surpass 25 million organic downloads on mobile. From September to December 2025, Midjiwan ran the successful Polytopia Word Championships, a global eSports tournament which saw a prize pool of $10,000 and over 10,000 sign-ups.
