Take a step back and look at NFT hype: Non-fungible tokens have come from being a screenshot debate from the new sensation. The last four to five months were all about NFTs, with mainstream companies announcing their projects regarding them. Now, Twitter has declared its devotion to NFTs.
Twitter said they were searching for a way to authenticate user NFTs in September 2021. Now, with a $2.99 Twitter Blue subscription, iOS users can showcase their NFTs on their hexagon-framed profile pictures.
At launch, Twitter supports several crypto wallets that users can connect to their profiles and verify that their tokens are genuine NFTs:
- Argent
- Coinbase Wallet
- Ledger Live
- MetaMask
- Rainbow
- Trust Wallet
Looking at this list, one may question the decentralization of information. Why would Twitter need a selective list that’s not the case?
Another concern about the NFT operation is Twitter’s dependence on OpenSea API, meaning that any problem with API, Twitter’s NFT service will go down as well. Unsurprisingly, this happens from time to time.
Twitter Blue FAQ answered many questions concerning implementing the user authenticated NFTs, but the sole ownership is not entirely possible for now, it seems. If one wants an NFT without rights as a hexagon framed profile picture, he can download it and create his NFT from an NFT platform and get his hexagon framed profile picture. The possibility of licensing pixels and digital information is still a debate, and NFT forgery isn’t going anywhere —yet, at least—.
