Ubisoft had a change of mind about their upcoming server shutdown on several classic games. The games were supposed to be decommissioned on September 1. The most recent statement from the company revealed that the decision was delayed to October 1.

The company used these words in its latest statement about the decommissioning:

“Decommissioning online services for older games is something we do not take lightly, but it is also a necessity as the technology that drove those services becomes obsolete. Over the last month, our teams have been hard at work exploring what is possible to reduce disruption. As a result, we moved the decommission date from September 1 to October 1. The single-player downloadable content (DLC) of several games on PC – Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed III (2012 release), Far Cry 3, and Splinter Cell Blacklist – will be available to download and keep before that date.”

The announcement comes with the warning that if the users own any of these games mentioned above, they should activate the free DLC before October 1. This warning does not apply to consoles.

One of the games to be decommissioned was the fan-favorite Assassin’s Creed 2 on PlayStation 3. The users will not be able to link their Ubisoft account or use any online features starting from October 1. It looks like Ezio’s first adventure will stay online for at least another month.

The complete list of games with delayed decommission is as follows:

  • Assassin’s Creed 2,3 (2012), Brotherhood, Liberation HD, and Revelations
  • Driver San Francisco
  • Far Cry 3 (2012)
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
  • Rayman Legends
  • Silent Hunter 5
  • Space Junkies
  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist
  • ZombiU

Ubisoft Mainz is still working on the 2011 title Anno 2070 with a task force, providing server updates and upgrades for the game. The title was going to be decommissioned but was later decided otherwise.
