Here are the key takeways from the report:

Coin Master has brought interconnected event systems to casual games with their Cosmic Voyage event.

Grouping a set of specific events under a single thematic umbrella is a complex strategy common in midcore titles, and its introduction into a casual title indicates that the bar is being raised when it comes to player engagement.

Rovio has launched Angry Birds 2 Space within Angry Birds 2, bringing back the fan-favourite space biome from Angry Birds Space, which was removed from the app store in 2019.

The temporary resurrection has capitalized on the nostalgia for the franchise’s history, bringing about a lot of excitement. The event was announced with a drone show at Twitchcon, showcasing the effort and expense Rovio continues to invest in the Angry Birds franchise.

The importance of a strong IP continues to show as Disney Magic Match 3D has been released and arguably become one of the best-performing new puzzle titles of the period.

Launched on October 8, the game quickly climbed to the top 4 downloads, and, even after ending user acquisition spending, stabilized within the top 200 grossing ranks. The 3D match title relies on Disney nostalgia and recognition as part of its ‘IP-cased trash sorting’ gameplay loop.

A new anime-style open-world RPG, Duet Night Abyss, has launched with an interesting twist, as it has decided to forgo character and weapon gachas entirely, instead having characters unlockable through daily tasks.

After hitting DL 8 and GR 157, both its downloads and revenue have tapered quickly, which raises questions about how sustainable this model is in the F2P RPG space.

Following on from Roblox and Fortnite’s UGC strategies that kicked off in September, Genshin Impact has made a significant foray into the space with the addition of Miliastra Wonderland.

This in-game editor allows players to create and share custom games. The mode operates with its own ecosystem. Players are given generic “Avatar” characters to use, and can obtain outfits for them via the mode’s own Battle Pass and dedicated gachas, creating a potentially lucrative monetization stream separate from the main game’s character gacha.
