AppMagic H1 24 Report dives deep into these genres and shows important data.
Highlights from the report
The Match-3 genre saw a 9% YoY revenue increase, carried by the market leader Royal Match. However, downloads of Match-3 games decreased by 23% YoY in H1 24. Royal Match introduced new social features and game mechanics, reworked older features, and innovated its event integration.
Merge-2 Meta grew in downloads by 20% year over year and saw an impressive 107% year-over-year growth in revenue during H1 24. The genre’s increased success in monetization, largely driven by its LiveOps strategies, played a huge part in this success.
Match 3D showed even more impressive growth than Merge-2, more than doubling its revenue with a 127% YoY increase. What sets Match 3D apart is that its growth is driven primarily by new titles, while the genre’s founder, Triple Match 3D by Boombox Games, is stagnating.
The Idle Tycoon genre is seeing a dramatic decline, with revenue dropping by 19% year over year and downloads dropping by 20%. Frozen City, the lead in this genre, has lost its place in the Top 10, and only one new title, Idle Outpost: Business Game, has entered the top list.
The Casino genre saw a 146% growth in market revenue compared to H1 23. This remarkable growth was largely due to Scopely’s Monopoly Go!‘s groundbreaking success. The previous leader in the casino genre, Coin Master, still holds a huge market among players.
Sort Puzzle was the fastest-growing genre in revenue in H1 2024. Those who cracked the new formula in this genre experienced incredible growth, often multiplying their revenue. Seven out of the top ten titles are new entries in the genre.
AppMagic H1 24 Report shows that one of the biggest trends in 2024 is the stronger focus on LiveOps and monetization. Innovative games using the latest market practices can still find a place in the mobile gaming market.
