Activision Blizzard has shared that the Call of Duty franchise will receive a “full premium release” next year. The company revealed this information in its recent Q3 2022 financial report, stating that it aims to start a new era to take the franchise even further.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claimed that the premium release planned for 2023 will be some sort of an expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It would stand as a continuation of sorts for the record-breaking title in the franchise.
Schreier stated that the premium release is being developed by Sledgehammer. The studio’s previous works include Call of Duty titles such as Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare, WWII, Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard.
Another claim came from the experienced reporter, which revealed that Treyarch is developing the next major title in the franchise, and its launch date is sometime in 2024. Treyarch has been one of the pillars of the Call of Duty franchise for a long time, along with Infinity Ward.
Schreier commented on a different Twitter post, arguing that the upcoming expansion for Modern Warfare 2 is also a financial strategy. He claimed that the expansion might introduce enough new single and multiplayer content so that it can be charged at full price as if it’s a standalone Call of Duty game.
Back in 2011, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was heavily criticized for being a “copy-and-paste” standalone version of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
