Back in early May 2022, Embracer Group announced that it has entered into an agreement with Square Enix to purchase Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal. Today, the Swedish holding company announced the completion of the purchase. This means popular IPs like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and about 50 others are now owned by Embracer.

The Swedish gaming giant shared an official press release, letting the public know that the acquisition got all the approvals and was fully wrapped up. The three video game studios will form the 12th operative group under Embracer, the earlier one (11th) being Freemode led by Lee Guinchard. The 12th operative of Embracer will be under Phil Rogers’ leadership.
Embracer Group has been on an acquisition spree as of late, and it doesn’t seem like the company will stop anytime soon. Earlier this month, Embracer acquired The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit IP rights, and also brought in Limited Run Games, Tripwire Interactive and other studios under its banner.
