Motion Blur Studios, formerly known as “Last Light”, unveiled their new game Black State across all IGN channels. Using the Unreal Engine 5 game engine, Black State blends the espionage action of Metal Gear Solid with the reality-bending portal technology of Portal.

The game’s campaign centers on a legendary ex-soldier who is summoned on a mysterious mission. His mission is to rescue a scientist and uncover the truth behind a catastrophe.

In an interview with IGN, Motion Blur Studio was asked about Black State’s similarities to the Metal Gear Solid series:

Of course we love the Metal Gear Solid series. While working for 2.5 years on our comprehensive game design document of nearly 500 pages, we studied The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted and many other games that pushed the boundaries of development and game mechanics. Inspired by these examples, our small team is determined to deliver the highest development quality and exceptional game mechanics despite our limited size.

We strive to create rich and deep storytelling combined with engaging gameplay mechanics, delivering an immersive and unforgettable gaming experience. Our goal is to push the boundaries and give players the best experience we can provide.

After the release of the trailer, Motion Blur Studio’s thanked the entire team and gamers. “This is just the tip of the iceberg, there’s so much more to see,” they said.

Before the release of the trailer, the team shot a devlog video and shared important information about Black State.

  • Black State is a game that has been on the mind of Motion Blur Studio founder Kadir Demirden since 2007. Domain names for the game were purchased in 2017.
  • Motion Blur Studios took a strategic approach by waiting until the game was playable before announcing it.
  • Black State’s game design document is almost 500 pages long, reflecting the depth and detail of the project.

When we presented Black State to all the big game publishers you can think of, the first question they all asked was “How can something like this come from Turkiye?”. We want to break this perception with Black State and prevent these difficulties in future similar projects.
