PlatinumGames’s first attempt at live-service games failed pretty much on all fronts. Critics and players rarely see eye to eye, but Babylon’s Fall is certainly one of those unique cases where both sides agree with one another almost completely.

Babylon’s Fall is heavily criticized for its outdated graphics, monotonous combat, its revenue model and the list ever goes on. The developer PlatinumGames usually delivers and the studio stands out with innovative gameplay design and well-received combat mechanics, hence Babylon’s Fall was quite a shock for the game maker’s fans. Per Steam Charts, Babylon’s Fall had an average of 4 people playing in the last 30 days and alone should tell how miserable the game’s been doing for Square Enix. Further expansion packs were already put on hold and now comes the news from the game’s official page that they’re terminating services for Babylon’s Fall on February 27, 2023.
The press release also mentions that Platinum is canceling future major updates that were planned for Babylon’s Fall. Season 2 will run until November 29, 2022, and will be followed by “Final Season”.
Platinum also said they’re planning to implement as many events and other initiatives as they can till the termination date comes to express their gratitude to the players who’ve invested in Babylon’s Fall.
The termination of a live service game means you won’t be able to play the game anymore. The studio is set on completely abandoning the project; all gameplay data on Babylon’s Fall servers will be deleted right after the termination date comes.
