Istanbul-based Rollic announced that it had acquired Berlin-based mobile game studio NanoTribe. In 2020, California-based Zynga acquired Rollic. Rollic, on the other hand, bought a total of four Turkish mobile game studios in the past year. German mobile game studio NanoTribe was the first step in Rollic’s global growth.
Rollic and NanoTribe have previously worked as partner studios. Together they launched successful games such as Cashier 3D, which has reached more than 33 million downloads worldwide, and Arrow Fest, one of the favorite games of 2021. According to the statement made by the company, NanoTribe will continue to produce original mobile games under the Rollic.
Burak Vardal, co-founder and CEO of Rollic, said in his statement:
“The entrepreneurial mindset and passion of the NanoTribe team align well with Rollic’s vision to expand into new markets. We are happy to add the games and skills they will bring with them to our growing family. We are also happy to have established our first European office in Berlin together with NanoTribe. Our focus is to create a diverse and global portfolio of game producer studios and to recruit talents that produce fun, interesting, and original content for our users.”
NanoTribe was founded in 2017 and has achieved successful games with tens of millions of downloads worldwide. Published in partnership with Rollic in June 2021, Arrow Fest reached 28 million downloads in two months. The game, which managed to become the most downloaded game on Android and iOS in a short time, became a global hit. Today, Arrow Fest has approached 50 million downloads.
After acquiring Turkish mobile game studios ByteTyper, Creasaur Entertainment, Uncosoft, and ZeroSum in 2021, Rollic continues to grow globally with this new agreement. Rollic’s repeated success in “hyper-casual,” defined as the fastest-growing game genre on mobile devices, helped Zynga improve its overall performance among the top three most downloaded game publishers in the US in 2021.
Rollic placed a total of 16 games in the 1st or 2nd place in the US App Store in the free games category. At the same time, Rollic’s games have surpassed 1.4 billion downloads worldwide. With these achievements, the company maintains its place among the world’s largest hyper-casual publishers. Rollic’s success, which took the first step of its global growth with NanoTribe, seems to continue.
