Tencent has acquired a 37% stake in Wuthering Waves developer Kuro Games

Tencent now holds a 51.4 percent controlling stake in the company and has become the only external shareholder of Wuthering Waves developer Kuro Games.

As reported by Gematsu, Tencent has acquired a 37% stake in Kuro Games.

The Chinese tech giant said Kuro Games would continue to operate independently and assured the company that things would remain unchanged. Internally, Kuro Games believes the change will create a more stable environment, and its long-term strategies will be more secure.

Launched on May 22, 2024, Wuthering Waves made nearly $10 million in 5 days and $110 million in less than a month.

Original investment from Hero Games and Tencent’s first acquisition

On October 23, 2019, Kuro Games announced the completion of a significant funding round, securing a $30 million capital infusion from Hero HootSuite. Following this investment, Hero HootSuite acquired a 32.5% equity stake in Kuro Games, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s growth trajectory.

On March 17, 2023, Tencent revealed its acquisition of a 14.33% stake in Kuro Games. Subsequently, the company’s shareholding structure was updated, with 37.07% of shares held by Hero HootSuite, 14.33% by Tencent Limited, and 48.59% retained by the founding team.
