Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda steps down

The change is intended to reshape the management team to deliver even greater entertainment.

Japanese multinational holding company Square Enix announced that company CEO Yosuke Matsuda is stepping down, and Takashi Kiryu, the current CSO, will take his place as the CEO.

Square Enix released a statement saying, “Under the rapid change of business environment surrounding the entertainment industry, the proposed change is intended to reshape the management team with the goal of adopting ever-evolving technological innovations and maximizing on the creativity of the Company’s group in order to deliver even greater entertainment to its customers around the world.”

The change is to be officially finalized after the company’s annual shareholder meeting in May. Yosuke Matsuda has been the President of Square Enix since April 2013, succeeding former president Yoichi Wada.

Yosuke Matsuda has appeared in a handful of games from Square Enix, usually presented as a boss.
