The lawsuit against Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Project has come to a close, resulting in $1.85 million to be paid by the Poland-based firm to its various investors. The company was first sued back in 2020 with the alleged accusation of misleading the game’s investors about its state, especially on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The deal also concludes that CD Projekt will not be forced to admit to any of the allegations detailed in the lawsuit. Ever since its initial launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has been riddled with controversy. The team gave great effort into patching and updating the game, eventually leading to the Labor of Love award at Steam Awards 2022.
CD Projekt is looking to launch a Game of the Year edition for Cyberpunk 2077 this year that also includes its one and only expansion, Phantom Liberty. Last year, the efforts made by the dev team, along with a boost from the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the title managed to cross the 20 million sale milestone.
The company looks to produce more transmedia plans after the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, along with developing five new Witcher games, a new Cyberpunk game, and a new IP. Although CD Projekt’s luck is turning around thanks to its own work, it’s still uncertain when all the discussion surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 will finally be put to rest.
