What are the five mobile games over $1 billion?
Tencent have the two hits of the year with PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings, which have earned $2.6 billion and $2.5 billion in revenue. According to the figures, PUBG Mobile increased by 64.3% year-on-year while Honor of Kings increased by 42.8%.
According to Sensor Tower, the revenue of five mobile games break $1 billion in revenues so far, when more than expected figures were spoken in the mobile gaming industry.
When we look at the next best performing mobile game of the year, we can see that there is a serious gap between the top two performers and the next best-performing mobile game of the year. Pokemon Go, which adapted itself during the pandemic with the updates, achieved $1.2 billion with an annual increase of 31.5%.
Two other games that hit the billion-dollar threshold were Coin Master and Roblox. Both games doubled their revenues in 2019 – each earned $1.1 billion.
Now that there is little time left for the new year, there are still mobile games that can join this billionaire club, although the numbers for 2020 are roughly determined. Mixi’s Monster Strike game has now reached $958 million, with a small annual growth of 2.8%. A surprise in the last days of the year could make it cross the border, too.
“So far in 2020, the global mobile games market has generated $75.4 billion, which is already up 19.5 percent from 2019,” said Senor Tower’s EMEA mobile insights strategist Craig Chapple. “While 2021 is unlikely to match this year’s extraordinary mobile games revenue growth, we expect the sector to build upon 2020’s strong performance, which could result in more billion-dollar hits by the end of next year.”
