EA retires online services for several older games

EA says retired games are no longer feasible.

EA has just updated its Online Service Updates web page and revealed that some older games will no longer have online services. Red Alert 3, Mirror’s Edge, and Dragon Age Origins are some of the games listed in the update.

In the Online Service Update, games losing online services have less than  1% of all peak online players across all EA titles. EA said “It’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running.”

Army of Two: The 40th Day, Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, and Dragon Age Origins (MP Screenshots server) will lose online features on October 20, 2022. Console services for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, and Mercenaries 2 will be shut down on November 9, 2022. Onrush is going offline on November 30, and Super Mega Baseball will be down on December 15,2022.

January 19, 2023 will have four games retired; Gatling Gears, Mirror’s Edge, Nba Jam On Fire Edition and Shank 2.

EA recently had a record breaking launch day for FIFA 23 with over 10.3 million players. The company also made the news for canceling a Plants vs. Zombies game to resource a Star Wars game, and cancel it too.
