Mobile game market overview – June 2025

GameRefinery has released its June 2025 Mobile Game Market Overview, offering fresh insights into global trends and highlighting key genre shifts.

GameRefinery’s latest report for June 2025 offers a concise overview of the mobile game market, highlighting key trends in casual and midcore games.

Here are the key highlights we picked from the report.

June’s casual game updates

  • Car Match: Traffic Puzzle is the second hybrid puzzle casual game from Grand Games (known for Magic Sort) and is scaling in downloads and revenue. The game entered the top-grossing 200 in mid-June and continues to scale, peaking at #143 in the US top-grossing iOS chart.

  • Knit Out is one of the latest editions to Rollic Games’ catalog and entered the top-grossing 150 in June. It features a unique puzzle mechanic where players clear colored yarns by strategically selecting matching yarn balls positioned beneath the puzzle board.

    • Tasty Travels, a Merge2 title from Century Games with a base-building meta and food theme, has been scaling in downloads and revenue since its launch in February 2025. It finally cracked the US iOS top-grossing 100 in June, making it a serious contender in the competitive Merge2 genre.

    • Century Games’ Match3 game, Truck Star, has overtaken Chrome Valley Customs in momentum as the top ‘male-targeted’ Match3 game.

    • HABBY!’s roguelite game Capybara Go! enjoyed a hugely successful launch by tapping into capybara viral trends, but revenue and downloads have been on a downhill trajectory. Its collaboration event with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hoped to turn that around by introducing a separate event area with TMNT-themed sub-events and IAP bundles. GameRefinery data shows RPD on iOS increased by 48%, but the collaboration didn’t bring in many new players or have a major impact on overall revenue.

    • Mattel’s Phase 10: Casual Card Game also hosted its first-ever collaboration event with Snoopy, part of the Peanuts comic strip franchise. Overall, the collaboration event caused a 23% increase in revenue and 59% increase in downloads on iOS (compared to seven days prior).

    • Love Island: The Game – Interactive Story surged into the Top 50 grossing ranks, scaling significantly in both revenue and downloads.

    New game releases in June

    • Netease has a new Marvel game: MARVEL Mystic Mayhem, a grid-based tactical battler which launched at DL #2 and GR #96 in June, peaking at GR #49. Mystic Mayhem features a unique art style to stand out, while gameplay focuses on strategic real-time combat with auto-attack and card-driven abilities for its Heroes.

    • Umamusume: Pretty Derby, one of the most popular mobile games in the world, is finally available in the West as of June. The game was originally released in Japan back in February 2021, and dominated the top-grossing rank for most of the year without ever falling below GR 5. Even today, it has a sustained grossing rank of #27. Gameplay focuses on racing girls through a special training program loop. After each race, the girls perform idol concerts.

    • Sega Atlus’ Persona series is one of the most popular turn-based RPG series in the world. The mobile version of Persona 5—Persona 5: The Phantom X—is finally available globally following its 2024 release in China and South Korea.

    • Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, a sequel to the popular Shadowverse card game, was launched in the US and Japan. While Shadowverse’s core gameplay is based around CCG mechanics, there’s also a social hub where you can hang out with friends and play various minigames like soccer.
